About
ChangeTalk
- The term “ChangeTalk” is derived from the principles of Motivational interviewing as a technique or way of being for eliciting from a person their own reasons, desires and motivations for pursing a change in a specific behaviour. Research suggests that specific forms of language predict greater behaviour change. We call this Change talk.
- I also like to refer to ChangeTalk by way of addressing any internal dialogue (i.e. self-talk) that does not support health or wellbeing. Sometimes, quite simply we need to change the internal talk in order for us to change our behaviours and consequently our health outcomes.
- The social psychologist, Daryl Bem, the originator of the self-perception theory stated “As I hear myself talk, I learn what I believe” (1967). Or “As I hear myself speak I know who I am.” Our thoughts create our futures. Henry Ford once said “if you think you can or you think you can’t you’re right.” How well do your thoughts support you?
- ChangeTalk is passionate about supporting people to change their self-talk; to be more positive; to unleash their true potential. If thoughts create beliefs and beliefs create words, words create actions, actions create habits, habits create lifestlyes… perhaps you’re not living the style of life you’d truly like to be living. What thoughts are holding you back? What thoughts or self-talk do you need to change?
- Let ChangeTalk help you.
About
Sharon
I am passionate about helping others achieve. I get excited about seeing others have an "ahuh" moment, and seeing how they can change their lives for the better. I love working with people on a one-to-one and seeing individual, personal change. I also love facilitating workshops and watching people in groups have their "ahuh" moments.
My strong values and beliefs influence how I work; these values include integrity, honesty, respect, confidentiality, being non-judgmental and being trustworthy. Adding to these are the beliefs I hold regarding my clients. I believe that you are the expert of your life. I believe that you have all the resources needed to make whatever changes you want in your life. I believe that you have amazing potential and I believe I can draw out and tap into your resources and this potential, and make real your dreams and goals.
I have an extensive background in health and wellbeing. My qualifications include: registered nurse and midwife, with a Masters in Health Sciences (Professional Practice, endorsed in Behaviour Change - with distinction) and a Bachelor of Science (Hons); I also have a certificate in adult teaching, a diploma in business (HR) and a certificate in Professional Supervision. I have competed in the Coast to Coast event, several half marathons and have been a personal trainer for others.
- I have worked as a manager, a facilitator, an educator in a variety of sectors, industries and environments. I have seen, know and have experienced some of the challenges that life throws up. I know what it takes to set goals and to meet those challenges head on. My passion lies with supporting people to be the best they can be; in seeing growth of confidence and self esteem; in creating motivation for change.
- Using an Appreciative Inquiry (AI) approach, motivational interviewing (MI) skills and life coaching skills I will work with you to elicit from you your desires and reasons for change...and perhaps even your reasons why not to change. Together we will address and explore stumbling blocks, strengths and solutions to your issues.

"The uniqueness of the service Sharon provides enables a broadness; a no limits approach with what you are personally trying to achieve. Her manner, enthusiasm and genuine commitment created a platform where openness and vulnerability were supported and protected whilst practically engaging to find resolve, answers and solutions. What I felt was achieved during my consultations was a boldness, strength and voice toward a situation which I did not have prior, nor knew how to achieve it. Sharon has the ability and knowledge to draw information and help put words to the issue/situation that was not fully understood ...... until now. I am truly grateful and feel a sense of control which I did not have before. Thank you." .... Laura Cavanagh
